Constitution Day of Ukraine

Constitution Day of Ukraine is observed on June 28, 2016. The day is an Ukrainian public holiday, first celebrated in 1996, and commemorating the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of Ukraine in 1996. As Constitution Day is a public holiday, businesses, schools, universities, and public offices are usually closed. During the day, musical events, street parades, and fireworks take place. Also, the Ukrainian president congratulates the country on this holiday. 

«International Day for Protection of Children»

Today is International Day of Children's Protection in Ukraine. This is not surprising because the children in any country are the same for all of us – they are future of the people and nation. On this occasion Ukrainians organize various events. They serve not only to remind that the child weaker than adult and depends on his actions. On the same day, people especially hard trying to convey to the kids a few simple ideas: the world is not so bad, there is a place for joy and gladness, and justice always prevails. There are a lot of celebrations in this day for children.

Poems in English lessons

Children might already enjoy reading and listening to poetry in your own language and perhaps in English too. Poems are, after all, authentic texts. This is a great motivator. Poems are often rich in cultural references, and they present a wide range of learning opportunities. Before doing any productive work, I like to give pupils plenty of pre-reading activities so that they are adequately prepared. It can be fun to get children to rehearse and perform a poem. I read the poem to them or play a recording, and they identify the stresses and pauses. A poem can spark off some wonderful creative writing. Students can add more lines or stanzas individually or in pairs or groups. You might need to spend a bit of time finding a poem that links thematically with your scheme of work, and making sure you respect the copyright rules. One of the things I like most about using poetry in the classroom is that I can usually create lots of opportunities for personalisation. This means that the students have plenty to say, and the communication is genuine because they are talking about their own experiences or hypotheses. They are engaged and motivated, which helps to make the lesson and the language memorable.

Collocations

Collocations are likely combinations of words.  They have been variously defined as 'the company words keep',' the way words combine in predictable ways',' portable chunks of language', or even as 'used language'.  Although the term itself may be unfamiliar, collocations are central to the way we receive and produce texts. Idioms and phrasal verbs, which already receive some attention in the English syllabus, fall under the overarching category of collocations.  It has been claimed that collocations of between one and five words account for around 70% of all text, whether written or spoken.

Prepositions

 Prepositions are short words (on, in, to) that usually stand in front of nouns (sometimes also in front of gerund verbs).

Even advanced learners of English find prepositions difficult, as a 1:1 translation is usually not possible. One preposition in your native language might have several translations depending on the situation.

There are hardly any rules as to when to use which preposition. The only way to learn prepositions is looking them up in a dictionary, reading a lot in English (literature) and learning useful phrases off by heart (study tips).
